Above all, V values loyalty. She doesn’t kill for fun; she kills to keep her word. To clear a path, to accomplish a goal, to honour her promises. It's simple: she turns her emotions off and she doesn’t feel any way about it at all. Regret is unhelpful, guilt is heavy, fear is an obstacle. These things drag you down. She turns them off. And she sleeps well at night.

Once, she'd turned it over in her mind and figured that she was a soldier. Not like he was; not on the frontlines, watching her brothers-in-arms taking bullets for their cause. For her, there wasn’t even a cause. Every action she'd taken was obedient and selfish. Bending to the whims of the higher-ups, committed to doing whatever it would take to make it to the top. Then Arasaka chewed her up and spat her back out onto the cold streets of Night City. But really, the only thing that had changed was the scenery.

After the parade, she'd realised that Johnny was wrong. She wouldn’t make a great soldier.
